Internet Offerings...

Hello lovelies!!

I have spent the last four days, giving my new scanner quite the workout...  I have so far scanned over 1300 photos and still counting!!

This is what my 'workstation' starts to look like about 11pm...

It has been a roller-coaster of emotions looking through lots of old photos of my pa... though I'm happy to say, most of them have brought smiles rather than frowns... they make me miss him loads and wonder about all the adventures we would have embarked on together if he was still around...

Anywhos, the reason for this post is actually a few things that have surfaced on my fb newsfeed which have kept me sane and made me laugh when the routine of *open scanner, remove photos, place photos, close scanner* (repeat ad nauseum) were slowly making me lose the will to live...

April Photo-a-day Round-up #3

Hi lovelies,

I can't believe ANOTHER week has gone by... I feel like I've been super busy yet I also feel like I've accomplished not much at all!!

Right, here goes!

Day 15. Sunset {bit of a fail as it was really overcast that day}

Day 16. Flower {I love this photo! Can you believe I took it on my phone!!??}

Day 17. Something you don't like {cilantro}

Day 18. Hair {I actually took this while we were out at afternoon tea the next day... reminds me of when I peroxide bleached my hair in high school... not something I recommend doing at home!!}

Day 19. Orange {part of our afternoon tea.. neither were very delicious.. bit of a fail for the momster's birthday treat..}

Day 20. Something you drew {a map! kickin' it old skool.. no relying on gps for this lady!! notice x marks the spot!!}

Day 21. Bottle {may be my fave perfume bottle, I love the snow globe lid}

Day 22. The last thing you bought {technically the scanner.. but my new phone cover was too cute not to share!}

Early Travel Memories #2

Along with my second installment of April photo-a-day's I thought I'd share part two of my early travel memoirs~  I also had a rummage around in the basement and found a very early photo of me to share too...

See the super stylish little person with their hand up?? That's me!! I loved those yellow ski boots... they were second hand, but they are probably (to this day) my favourite out of all the snow gear I've ever owned... mostly because I remember going shopping for them with my Dad... every year there used to be a big jumble sale at a ski store up on K' Rd, where people would come to sell off their second hand gear before the new season started.. it was the perfect place to pick up stuff for kids, who pretty much outgrew everything from one season to the next... I think a lot of my early ski gear came from going to that sale each year with my Pa...
Aaannnyways... apparently the ladies at the momster's knitting group were talking about me, and said that I seem very independent and would adapt quickly to people and surroundings... that I seem to have no fear... the momster told the story of me losing them at Narita airport... and how I never stayed by their side when we went away with tour groups... that I would always find other people to hang out with.. She said she never felt like she had to look after me when we were on tour because somehow I'd always find other people and they'd just look after me... "Maybe because you were a kid and they thought you were cute, I dunno"... She said maybe they were both a little naive too, but I never seemed to get into trouble or wandered off and got lost so they just let me do whatever I wanted... She said, I probably didn't want to hang out with them because she used to always tell me off... and we'd always fight and argue, so it was more fun for me to go hang out with other people... (it's true!).. I was never one of those kids that hid behind my mum's leg... I was always looking for ways to get as far away from her as possible!! If she couldn't see me, she couldn't tell me off for whatever I was doing that she didn't like!! There would usually be some family with older kids or young couples, maybe on their honeymoon or something... these were normally my targets... :D

Thus concludes memories from kindy and primary school.

When I was in intermediate/middle school, my parents sent me off on a tour group on my own... It was my summer holidays in NZ but they both had to work.. I was bored sitting around so Dad came up with the bright idea to send me to Canada/USA with a tour group... They dropped me off at the airport... much to the surprise of everyone else in the group, they then buggered off.. and off I went!! There was a company on their work holiday, so there were loads of young'uns for me to hang out with... I had a great time... I remember eating lunch at the Grand Canyon... a very very wet day at Disneyworld and Universal Studios... riding at the very front of Jurrasic Park and getting absolutely drenched and it making not a lick of difference as I was already soaked to the bone!

I remember being on safari in Kenya and Zimbabwe... staying in giant tents or tree houses... almost being squashed by an elephant... showering outdoors, the chameleons, the snake in our bedroom.. visiting Victoria Falls and not realising we had wandered into Zambia until we were stopped by armed guards on our way back... oops!! One of my favourite memories - being woken up by a stampede of elephants... A memory that makes me laugh now, tho not so much a the time - a monkey crapping on my head while I was attempting to have lunch...

The icebergs on our way to Antarctica.. on a Russian icebreaker boat... the chocolate mousse fight we had in the kitchen with the staff one day... trying to eat while holding onto plates and cutlery while the boat was pitching at crazy angles... playing silly buggers on the deck while dad took photos on his Hassleblad... I should really dig that camera out.. tho I would need to look up how to load the film!!  Getting to Antarctica and the gentlemen of the group being told not to pee outside as it could result in some rather "uncomfortable situations"...  Visiting the American McMurdo Base and really wanting to bowl on their mini bowling lanes... visiting NZ's Scott Station and thinking how much smaller it was... the penguins.... trying to shower and sleep on the floor of the cabin while the boat pitched madly and threatened to tip over... thinking the floor was maybe safer than being in the bunks as I couldn't get thrown off, onto the floor!

Those are my most vivid memories of travelling with the parentals as a small person.. if I think of anymore.. I'll be sure to share them with you~!!

xx Caz
Do you have early travel memories?? I'd love to hear them if you do!!

April Photo-a-day Round-up #2

Hey lovelies,

Somehow another week has gone by.. where'd the time go??

Here's my second instalment of #photoadayapril photos...

Day 8. Inside your wallet - some small bills, some plastic and a whole lotta coinage~

Day 9. Younger you - a few moons ago, from life in Whistler...

Day 10. Cold - well the weather is only getting warmer here.. so about the only cold things are icy desserts... (rather big FAIL on the polaroid effect... think I shall be deleting that app)

Day 11. Where you ate breakfast - on the couch in the living room..

Day 12. Stairs - easily my favourite photo this week.. from my travels in Boston circa 2006...

Day 13. Something you found - a geocache by Taipei 101..

Day 14. How you feel today - lazy.. it was a pj's and chill out day...

So there you have it! Another week of photos.. weekends are definitely harder as we don't tend to go out.. tho it's interesting trying to find things at home to photograph that fit the cues!!

xx Caz
Shout out goes to fat mum slim for providing the prompts... and don't forget to visit and follow me on lightbox to see more photos from my day-to-day~!!

Early Travel Memories

With the parentals on one of the islands on the way to Antarctica.. I think Auckland Island...
Age 15, and rocking the meanest wraparound sunnies EV-AH!! & Reebok high tops.. Yup-huh!!
Yes, we all have matching jackets... and even trousers!! Coz we're cool like that... Think I still have that jacket somewhere..

I like to think that one of the reasons I love to travel is because we travelled a lot when I was a kid. My dad was as intrepid as they get and loved going places on and OFF the tourist trail...

My earliest memory is riding on my dad's shoulders while touring ice sculptures in Hokkaido. I must only be 3 or 4, still in kindergarten.. I remember complaining that my feet were cold and I didn't want to walk anymore.. I remember playing in the giant castle carved out of ice and that it had a slide. Apparently having a cold ass didn't bother me as much as having cold feet!

A haiku~

The Owl Noises Heard
Are Actually Squirrels
According to Mum

True story... apparently what I thought were hooting noises made by owls... are some strange noise made by squirrels...  I always assumed that squirrels made noises akin to mice..... hmmmm....

Are owls and squirrels friends in the animal world??
xx Caz

~Inspired by the haikus over at Hazel and Mare..  tho she hasn't written any in a while.. I miss them.. they always had a little quirk and made me smile...~

April Photo-A-Day Round-up #1

Hey lovelies!!

So a while ago I posted about taking part in Fat Mum Slim's April photo-a-day, and I've been pretty good about my daily photo so far.. we were running around lots yesterday and I missed lunch so didn't have anything to take a photo of for the cue.. but I made up for it today!

Anyways, here's my first weekly round-up of photos...

Day 1. My Reflection

Day 2. Colour - I started off wanting to have alternate colours on each finger.. but forgot till I'd already done one hand... so one hand of each colour it was!!

Day 3. Mail - When you've moved as much as I have.. this is probably the most reliable form of mail..!! I had wanted to take a photo of the mail man at my granny's as he comes around on a scooter, but I overslept and missed him... oops!

Day 4. Someone who makes you happy - My granny! This picture cracks me up because she's so happy to be on a horse! She'd never ridden a horse before this day...

Day 5. Tiny - I was going to take a photo of my cousin's chihuahua.. who is actually HUGE for a chihuahua.. but found this picture in the paper... thought it was kinda perfect for the cue..

Day 6. Lunch - more like brunch... cup of hot water & plate of fruit is what I usually have for breakfast every morning... all cut up ready to eat... courtesy of the momster!! Thanks mommy!!

Day 7. Shadow

So there you have it, my first week of photo-a-day participation... does it pass muster??

Don't forget you can follow me on lightbox, here, if you want to see my photos daily.. as well as other little tidbits and pretties from life in general!
xx Caz
Have you been playing along too??
